Description

BEFORE COMMENTING, PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT SOME OF THE THINGS I SAY ARE FACTS AND OTHERS ARE MY OWN OPINIONS. I DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR ENERGY OR INTEREST TO ARGUE WITH PEOPLE ABOUT SOMETHING I POSTED MANY YEARS AGO, SO DON'T MIND ME IF I DON'T REPLY... IN ANY CASE, YOU CAN BE AGAINST BULLFIGHTS OR NOT, AND I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND I WON'T ARGUE WITH YOU, BUT OF ALL THINGS, DON'T COME HERE TO TELL ME AND FELLOW SPANISH PEOPLE HOW SPAIN IS SUPPOSED TO WORK, IN SPECIAL IF YOU AREN'T EVEN SPANISH (WHAT'S YOUR GOAL EVEN?).

edit: In fact, I won't allow comments about this pic anymore. I have wasted a lot of time during many years replying to nice people but also really rude people. This is a controversial topic so I expect as much, but this picture is REALLY OLD and I don't have any interest in discussing any of this further, at least not in the context of DA and this picture, because I am tired of people sending me extremely rude and/or aggressive messages but then inmediately blocking me so I don't have a chance to reply to them. Don't send me PMs about it, either, I'll simply block you and report you for abuse. And no, I am not going to remove the picture itself... there is no reason I should. I almost never post any "social justice" matters anywhere because of how susceptible people is and how rude 90% of the replies are, but I WANT to sometimes complain, to sometimes talk about my country, to sometimes talk about things that I don't agree with... and I don't necessary need people to

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bullfighting is defended by some people as a tradition, an ART, an ancestral ritual... but this is the 21st century. We know that hundreds of years ago there were coliseums were gladiators killed each other and Spartans who killed their babies, it´s all write down on the books so we don´t need to repeat it again and again to remember it... if you want bullfighting to be remembered, write it down on a book, like many other barbaric old fashioned rituals and traditions. That's how I see it.

I am SPANISH and I HATE BULLFIGHTING. Being Spanish doesn´t make me a heartless slayer of bulls or something, you know. In fact, bullfighting exists in Portugal, France, Mexico and many other places and it isn´t even that representative of Spain... not for people who live in Spain or who actually know Spain, anyway. But yeah, just because some decades ago turism arrived our beachs and we had a dictator during World War who loved bullfighting and who made it the "supposedly" national sport now we are doomed to be the most cruel people in earth or something. And we dance flamenco and sevillanas all day, and we eat tacos. SERIOUSLY.

Of course, bullfighting and other horrible traditions involving hurting bulls still exist in my country ´cos there are spanish people who support it. Those people are usually old people who lived most time under the dictator and who have the same mentality of the period, or people from villages brainwashed to follow the "traditions"... you won´t see any young spanish people loving bullfighting at all, much more like the opposite.

You know, I love Hetalia but, if something annoys me a lot, is the fact that all the characters are sometimes drow (by the author and the fas) wearing their amazing folkloric and traditional costumes, while Antonio as represetant of Spain is always drow wearing those clothes that are ONLY used for bullfighting, like they are our most significative clothes for males or something... WELL SURPRISE THAT´S NOT OUR TRADITIONAL COSTUME! Neither flamenco or sevillana dresses.

Look, these are some of our REAL traditional spanish clothes casetondeandara.iespana.es/1t_… farm4.static.flickr.com/3242/2… www.bienmesabe.org/revista_upl… www.bienmesabe.org/revista_upl… www.bienmesabe.org/revista_upl…

These ones following are the ones we use in my city for traditional festivals like La Pandorga www.ciudad-real.es/fiestas/pan… www.grupomazantini.com/galeria… www.grupomazantini.com/galeria… www.grupomazantini.com/galeria…

They don´t look that different from the rest of Europe, do they? Besides, you can´t really talk about a "traditional spanish costume" ´cos no such thing exists. Yeah, what you know as "Spain", a place were you probably think people speak "Spanish", it´s not what you think. Castilian is what you know as "Spanish" and there are another official languages over here, which are Aranés, Basque/Euskera, Catalán and Galician (no, they are not dialects, they are languages, and they are, I repeat, OFFICIAL LANGUAGES OF SPAIN AS WELL)

And why don´t we all just speak "Spanish"? ´cos, as I told you, no such thing as a "united Spain" exists in reality. Spain is in fact 17 Autonomous Communities and many of them are so different from the others that it's no surprise they are tired of Madrid pushing the southern culture into them and even want independence from Spain. And please, before you copy-paste some wikipedia article to explain to me the Spanish Constitution and shit, let me clarify again: I AM Spanish, I know what I am talking about... I´ve been living in 3 different Autonomous Communities for a long time, visited almost all of the others in various occasions, but even someone who has been living in a small town all his/her life knows of the constant conflicts (and terrorism) caused by those differences. You see, we are like the Baltics: different language, different food, different mentality, different traditional costumes, different EVERYTHING. And the differences are specially noticeable between the South and the North...

That´s why we hate being grouped as "a bunch of bulls killers with mexican hat" Oh by the way, did I mention that Spain is in EUROPE? Yeah, we are attached to France, Portugal and Andorra, not attached to México in AMERICA. And since we are not American, we DON´T wear mexican hat, we don't wear PONCHOS, we DON´T EAT TACOS, etc. so maybe next time you are walking around Barcelona and you want a souvenir, instead of walking around proudly wearing a mexican hat with a "SPAIN" on it and buying a bull figurine, maybe buy some Park Güell figurine or something, you know, actually Spanish.
