HELLO EVERYONE! THIS IS CARMEN ^v^
First of all, sorry about my english. Somehow, not so long ago I watched the somehow polemic film "Distric 9". Somehow I knew that film would cause me great anxiety and unconfort in the oversensitive mood I usually are. Somehow my chest was seethes for the whole film. And somehow I was able to resist all the cruelty and sadness of the film, and I am happy ´cos, in the end, I really loved the film. My favourite characters are Christopher and his son lol
I am not going to spoil you guys if you haven´t watched it (and if I do, I´ll make a *SPOILERS* mark XD), but I am so going talk about the film for many reasons... one of them being the fact that lately lots of people is being bitches to Spanish people just because we live in Spain, and I am an educator, artist, and human being with dignity so I am really concerned about it and so this film really attracted my attetion:
-First, I loved the theme and plot of the film. It´s a beautiful analogy of how some goverments (that you and me perflectly know) act. The movie is so full of criticism: it talks about racism, about culture, about your commons and those who you don´t see as your commons... about human stupidity in general lines and in deep, about family, bussines, love, hate, selfish and not so selfish interests... of course, many other films talk about this stuff, in similar or different ways than this film does, and I particulary liked the way this all is shown in Distric 9.
-Second, what´s with all that people saying "lol this film is talking about racism and it´s racist itself what a fail" just because SOME of the bad guys in the film are nigerians. I don´t see it like that and in my honest opinion people who say that it´s obviously looking at it in a PAINFULY SIMPLIFIED WAY. They are in Johannesburgo, of course some of the bad guys are black, they are Nigerians, what the hell did you spect to see in Johannesburgo? Russian mafia? Chinese triad? Japanese Yakuza? THEY ARE IN SOUTH AFRICA FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Just to inform you, the Nigerian goverment proihibited the film over there ´cos "it portrays Nigerians as gangsters and cannibals" and I don´t agree at all. As I said, in my opinion people is obviously lacking the hability to get into contex at all. The gang of nigerian and black guys who are dealers/traficans/pushers and have prostitutes and eat the aliens are NOT THE TOTALITY OF THE NIGERIANS (by the way, eating aliens it´s not really cannibalism, use a dictionary...) The people of the fastfood shop were the main character stops more than once were also black and nigerians, and they are not portrayed as criminals right? The people who
look at the sky while the motherships advances are also nigerians, right? and they look as perfectly normal people. So yeah, you are telling me that the film is racist because it shows a black nigerian warlord who is the leader of a gang of dealers and who is obviously crazy enough to eat aliens ´cos he thinks that way he would become as powerful as them... so what. Again, they are talking about that gang of nigerians who live with the aliens and not about the whole rest of the nigerian people who are portrayed as normal people. So yeah, I don´t see the point, so if you find the film racist at all, please explain me your point of view. And yes, I think that the film is an analogy of the apartheid, but I don´t think it is racist because of that, more like the opposite. There is a different between being critic and being blind. I get really mad when I see epic films like Mission Impossible 2 portraying Spain so horribly and wrong, and I am truly ashamed to even play Resident Evil 4 for the same reason. But I don´t get mad if a film talks about a group of Spanish dealers, ´COS THERE ARE DEALERS OVERHERE like everywhere else, and that doesn´t mean that me and the whole rest of the Spanish people are dealers too. Seriously.
Anyway, you can inform yourselves and state your own opinion
[link] [link]-"not logic behaviour of the characters" "there is inexistent characters development" or "insuficient depth of character" another popular rant when you don´t know what else to critic lol. I don´t agree, either. The film talks about something that happened in less than 80 hours and the characters development is just right for that time and for every situation in the film... for example, at the begining, the poor main character is obviously naive about all and while he respects the aliens a lot, he also get mad at them when the aliens acts unpolite to humans... a perflectly normal and logic reaction, I must say. After what happens to him *---SPOILER after he is infected END OF SPOILER---*, he says more than one racist comment against the aliens -also perflectly normal reaction-, but when the other humans start being bitches to him, he stop being innocent and so cheerful as he used -also logic behaviour in that situation-. Then he finds himself alone, into despair, and he starts becoming violent... and the change of circunstances make him confuse again and again... I am not going to spoil more but if that is not enough and logic character development, then excuse me but you are really pretty fussy person.
There are a whole bunch of other things I would like to talk about the film, but this journal is just long enough.
And here some critics that I don´t really agree with but just in case you can have more points of view about the film (some of them are in english, some in spanish)
