Well hi you guys again XD Since so many people ask me the same questions, I´ll answer some of them here so that I don´t have to rewrite it again and again XD (Seriously, I have rewrite this whole journal like 7 times this week... and sorry about my english)
Of course this is an art related site and most of my gallery is digital art related, so the first thing I am usually asked, both by newbies or already experienced artists, is: "You use a digital tablet, right? I wish I could have a MAC, too, so that I can draw like you! Can you tell me how do you draw anime?"
Seriously, so many people come to my deviant page just to say that... Why is everyone like so obsessed with them? I hate them, I truly hate digital tablets and MACs, I really do, ´cos my experiences with them were terrible... and seriously, I am only 22 years old and I am still studying, university consumes most of my money and my time and my health, so... do you truly believe that I can afford a DECENT digital tablet (cheap digital tablets are useless for artistic purposes, take that into consideration), that I can afford a MAC (and I hate them anyway) and do you really believe that I would have any better pics if I had them? no No NO. Don´t lie to yourself, don´t lie to others. You´ll become better with TONS of practice, by pushing yourself and being pushed by others, with patient and passion. THERE ARE NOT MAGICAL WANDS CALLED WACOM OR MAC... they won´t do the work for you... they are useful ONLY IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THEM. Don´t waste your money if you don´t have enough experience with digital stuff before...
Of course, that´s a very simplified way to say that I have tons of experience with them (I have to use them in the university) but I don´t use them to create my pics, and most of the people I know don´t use them either, and therefore you DON´T NEED THEM, so stop crying if you can´t afford them and start drawing and maybe you will start feeling better too! What I mean is, if you don´t have a tablet but you want to digital color your pics, go to google and search for tutorials and programs and investigate the programs by yourself and learnt from your observations! I learnt like that... I started with digital color when I was like 11 or 12 years old and for 10 years I NEVER used a tutorial and almost no help from other ´cos I am that kind of person who HATES being taught (looks like I hate lots of things lol) I just tried to copy the style of the animes I like the most, I only used the basic tools such as the brushes, lines, bucket... there are no magical filters to make your pic look more like anime, either, but tons of people seem to believe they exist ´cos I am asked for that kind of stuff again and again.
I´ll say it again: you need, PRACTICE, PATIENT, EXPERIENCE, OBSERVATION, PASSION, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, WORK, WORK, WORK. If you have a good teacher and you know how to take advantage of that, that´s even better but, seriously, I feel so frustrated when people come crying to me saying stuff like "I want to improve but I don´t have a wacom, I envy you guys!" and such stuff... Again, I DON´T USE A TABLET, only two or three of my drawing were coloured with a tablet, and you know what, I´VE BEEN DRAWING ALL MY LIFE. YES, ALL MY FUCKING LIFEEEE!!! What are you so jealous about? I work pretty hard, you know, we all do our best! I used to watch Sailor Moon and Captain Tsubasa when I was like 3 years old and I started drawing manga back then, trying to draw those characters, so yeah, like 20 years drawing manga and 10 years digital colouring and I have to learnt so much, yet!!! So please, I don´t want to discourage any of you, but... miracles don´t happen in the world of personal experience, if you know what I mean, not even if you are a genius, not even if you have the best teachers ever.
Of course, I am not going to lie to you, I can tell you that a GOOD digital tablet can make the work faster and simpler FOR SOME STYLES (it doesn´t work with my style, for example XD) and after many hours of works your hand and arm won´t hurt so much as with a mouse. But a bad tablet will only give you problems with the sensibility and the speed of reaction and such stuff, so if you are aiming for one, first investigate it as much as you can and then determinate if that´s what you are looking for.
Well this is becoming so so long but let´s go with another frequent question: How do you draw?
Well, I did this crappy tutorial some years ago
[link] but I am going to re-explain it again, again, ´cos I truly believe that, that tutorial was so bad XD Of course I am going to explain HO I DO IT, I am not going to explain all the ways it can be done but the one I use.
-First, I draw on a paper with a pencil like most people do. I´ve always used Din-A4 format, but for the last two years I´ve been using Din-A3 so that I can add more details and so that the final pic can have better resolution.
-After the pic is finished, I ink it with a pen. Some years ago I used to ink over the pencil but I was recommended to use transparent paper to ink so that I can keep the pencil work, and that´s the way I do it now.
-Inked already, you have scan. If you scan a transparent paper, you have to put a white paper over it so that the light of the scanner doesn´t make the digitalization look dark and strange, ok? Otherwise you won´t be able to see the lineart at all. When I scan a drawing I use a resolution of 300 and save it as a .tif
-Now you have to "clean" the pic as much as you can so that the black lineart and the white background are very clear. What I do : Limit the channels to black and white (that will eliminate all the other colors) and then restore the channels to RGB again. Now you can start colouring.
-Colouring have no mistery at all. I usually use Adobe Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. I just use the layers to help me and the basic tools. I spend an average of one week and a half doing the coloruing. I just re-do what I don´t like and keep on colouring.
-And that´s all about it.
Sorry this journal is so long. Thanks for reading ^v^

My friend, =ikizaku Don't have tablet, and you can see her gallery, that's really, really awesome with just a mere mouse. There's many artist that's can make an awesome picture with mouse, and I would feel ashamed if I blame at tablet because my art suck. And there's also, well, many people that have tablet, but their art not really good in my opinion.
So, like u wrote there, it's not the tools. It the artist his'herself. Tools just help, not a magic wand that make our art suddenly become awesome.
